Clear Aligners Fairfield CT

The Clear Aligner Process

It’s easy to get started with clear aligners. First, you’ll visit Bilous Orthodontics, where we’ll make a 3D image of your mouth using photos and X-rays. Dr. Bilous or Dr. Harel will prescribe your first set of custom-fitted aligners based on these images, starting the teeth straightening process.

You'll wear Spark aligners for about 9-15 months, using 18-30 sets of aligners during treatment. Wear the aligner trays for about 22 hours daily, removing them for brushing and eating. Over time, you'll switch to several sets of trays, and you should notice changes in just a few months.

Spark uses smooth, comfortable, and nearly-invisible plastic aligners customized just for you. The aligners will gently shift your teeth into place based on your custom treatment plan.

Unlike braces, there are no metal brackets or wires to deal with. Instead, you'll switch to a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks until treatment is complete.

The best part is that wearing aligners won't disrupt your daily life, as most people won't even notice you're straightening your teeth. This nearly invisible option is changing how people view orthodontic treatment in Fairfield and Orange.

Dr. Bilous and Dr. Harel have extensive experience with Spark and are excited to offer this technology to patients at Bilous Orthodontics.

Get Rid of Goopy Impressions

The iTero Element Scanner is a cutting-edge digital impression system that replaces the messy putty of earlier treatments.

With this technology, we can digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums, making the process more comfortable and faster compared to traditional putty-based impressions.

You’ll love how the iTero Element Scanner simplifies your treatment.

Differences Between Clear Aligners & Braces

With smooth plastic Spark aligners, you won't have to deal with potentially irritating metal components. Not only that, but you can take out the aligner trays before eating, giving you the freedom to enjoy any food you like.

Remember, it's essential to remove the clear aligners whenever you eat or drink anything other than water. Make sure you're comfortable with this before choosing clear aligners.

To maintain the appearance of your aligners and prevent staining, you'll need to clean your teeth before putting the aligners back on after each meal. Luckily, brushing and flossing are much easier with clear aligners since there are no brackets and wires to work around, unlike traditional braces.

Caring for Your Clear Aligners

Remember to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day. That’s crucial for them to be able to do their job and straighten their teeth.

Taking good care of your aligners and practicing proper oral hygiene will keep your aligners clean, invisible, and odor-free. Remember to remove your aligners to eat and drink, then clean them right after to avoid discoloration and bacteria buildup.

You can keep your aligners clear by clearing debris with a soft toothbrush and water. Don’t use toothpaste since it has abrasives that can create micro-abrasions. These might give your aligners a cloudy and dull appearance.

Don’t use denture cleaners with your aligners, and avoid soaking them in mouthwash. These can damage the surface of the plastic, causing it to become more visible, sometimes making the teeth look somewhat yellow.

Be sure not to eat or drink (anything but water) while wearing clear aligners.  Lots of foods and drinks will stain or discolor your aligners.

And remember, using toothpaste to clean your aligners will scratch the plastic and dull your aligners. These scratches can also create small traps in your aligners for bacteria to dwell.

See If Clear Aligners Are Right for You

Just like with braces, you‘ll usually need to wear a retainer after Spark clear aligner treatment to maintain your new alignment—and your amazing new smile.

Dr. Bilous or Dr. Harel may not recommend Spark clear aligners if you have bite issues or complicated problems with alignment or bite issues.
